The Awareness Programme on Environmental Issues with Special Focus on Air Pollution and Its Mitigation Measures was successfully held on 24th September 2025 at Charis High Academy on the 24th of September, 2025.
The event was organized in collaboration with the Nagaland Pollution Control Board, the National Clean Air Program, the Chumoukedima Town Council (CTC), and Charis High Academy with Er. Zapuvizo C. Khroitsu, JE, CTC, Mrs. Mhasivinuo Shuya, UDA, CTC, and Mr. Vikato Assumi, Office Assistant in attendance.
Hosted by Miss Seyiesinuo Theunuo, Class 8, it commenced with an invocation prayer by Miss Tiyongdangla Imchen, TGT, followed by a welcome note from Mrs. Hriiyia Kayina, Principal of Charis High Academy.
A speech on the theme was delivered by Miss Merangnaro of Class 8, highlighting the importance of collective responsibility in combating air pollution. Miss Chunbasenla Jamir, Vice Principal of Charis High Academy, delivered the keynote address and emphasized on the long-term impacts of unchecked air pollution and the role of students as change agents in society.
In addition, a special song was presented by Miss Avikuonuo Shuya of Class 9, which added vibrancy to the programme. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Mrs. Mhasivinuo Shuya, UDA, CTC.
As part of the programme, students of Charis High Academy carried out awareness activities in the community. They visited Nagaland Police Central School, Chumoukedima, Government Higher Secondary School, Chumoukedima, and Cosmopolitan School, Chumoukedima. During these visits, a student delivered a speech on the theme, and waste bins and awareness posters were donated to the schools to promote cleanliness and spread awareness on pollution control.
Encouraging student participation and consciousness, two competitions were conducted:
1) Poster-Making Competition for Classes 1–6.
2) Prepared Speech Competition for Classes 7–10.
These competitions provided a platform for students to creatively express their understanding of environmental issues and practical mitigation measures. Winners from each competition were felicitated, further motivating the students to engage actively in environmental protection.
The programme not only created awareness but also instilled a sense of responsibility among the students and the community to contribute towards a cleaner and healthier environment. With the collaborative efforts of the partnering organizations and the enthusiastic participation of students, the event was a grand success.
